Ok, No my teens aren’t being rebellious.
This title stems from a comment a older gentleman made to my daughter back at Easter time. They were at a sunrise service and the older gentleman commented on another teens behavior and said “he was being disrespectful and reclusive”. My daughter agreed, that the teen was being this way. The man turned around and looked at her, then proceeded to let her know, she would be like this. Wow!! I am glad this man knows the future! “All teens WILL REBEL” is what he said! Wow, poor teens… I didn’t know this was a rule in the land of ” Teendom”.
Ok, I rebelled..but that was because I didn’t have a relationship with God. I knew God was there..but that was about all, I didn’t think of God, unless it was an emergency. I wish I wouldn’t have rebelled. I didn’t have to though!!
And,”ALL TEENS” don’t have to either. My daughter was quite upset by this man’s comment to her…”statement to her”. My son said, that my daughter looked as if she wanted to punch the man. She wouldn’t have and didn’t of course! My son just knows his sister!! LOL!!! LOL!! One thing I thought was interesting, was the fact other adults heard what was being said, by this man to my daughter and didn’t say a word. Did they agree with what this man was saying???? He wasn’t just saying this about my daughter..but about ALL Teens!! Wow!!
Ok, I don’t believe all teens have to rebel! I think some will, some won’t! I think part of it, is on the parents. But then I have known teens to rebel that have had parents who loved the Lord. It is the heart of each teen that comes into play! Their heart towards God! Who God is to them! What He means to them! No, they aren’t going to be perfect people…(we aren’t as adults). But they don’t have to rebel.
My daughter just read a book called, “Do Hard Things“. She said it challenges Teens to rebel against rebellion. She loved the book. She was convicted to do better things with her teen years!
Sure, none of us are perfect. I don’t expect perfect teens! But I don’t expect them to flat out rebel either. Will they…I don’t know! I hope not! I pray, NOT! But I know one thing, it is not a command that they do!! It is not a code all teens have to live by!!
I pray for my teens! I am sure most parents do, even parents of kids who have rebelled. No one but God knows the matter of each man’s(or woman’s) heart! We are all capable of rebellion at anytime. But do we have to….NO!! I could turn from all I know and live a different life…sin is in me to do so!! I am doing it…by the grace of the Almighty, I am not!
What can we do as parents to help our children to not except this lie!
~pray to the Lord for guidance on how to live your own life..and be an example for your children
~pray for your relationships with your spouse and children. Having a strong marriage built on the Lord, helps with raising children. Notice I said strong…not perfect. (as my husband says…there is no perfect marriage, except that of a blind woman and a deaf man. She can’t see him and he can’t hear her! LOL!!
..)
~pray for your children’s individual needs. Each child is different! I only have two and they are completely different in personality! This is a good thing!
~teach them about God. Why He put us on this earth? What God expects from us? About Jesus, about His saving grace. About repentance. About a life built around giving glory to God and not ourselves.
Teaching these things when they are little, will help them in dealing with their heart as they grow.
I am sure many of you more experienced parents with teens could add many more…please do in the comment section! I don’t know all the answers. All I know is what the Lord, shows me through His word.
I do know though, you don’t have to do something, just because someone else says you will! Always, go back to what God says about it!
